Good for a laugh. One of our stops was a place called Quimby's. It was during happy hours. I saw that US pints of Rainier were $1.50. $1.50!! I don't think I've seen a $1.50 pint (US or otherwise) here since the '70s. And you know how many people I saw drinking those $1.50 Rainiers? Zero. There were only a few folks in there, all enjoying micros at about $3.50 a pint.

Our puritanical government wants us to believe that society will descend into instant anarchy at the sight of an inexpensive adult beverage. But in jurisdictions like Oregon, where adults are treated like adults, this doesn't happen.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15491921795068024654noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-826637739916486721.post-30059961418200464692014-07-28T12:50:12.479-07:002014-07-28T12:50:12.479-07:00It is becoming abundantly clear that they are only...It is becoming abundantly clear that they are only listening to the larger downtown multi-bar corporations who are spending money to lobby these changes and don't want to sell pitchers for $16 of bud light or Cariboo on special, but rather lower to like $12-$15. Public opinion has no sway at all here, which is quite sad. Bill, thanks for the media support as this will have an impact on their perception, which can drive some action. I would be begrudgingly ok with a $4 a 20oz pint minimum, but think $2.50 - $3 is more reasonable for happy hour prices and a true Happy Hour which I believe was the original minimum price.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-826637739916486721.post-12001897634874615202014-07-28T12:31:50.572-07:002014-07-28T12:31:50.572-07:00Thanks for this Paddy - I will be writing more abo...Thanks for this Paddy - I will be writing more about Unhappy Hour in my column in 24 Hours Vancouver and The Tyee on Tuesday.
